Liposuction Plastic Surgery Beverly Hills

LiposuctionLiposuction, otherwise known as lipoplasty or liposculpture, is a widely used procedure for removing excess fat from problem areas in the body. There are a lot of reasons why someone may want to consider liposuction for themselves. It’s possible that the patient has tried dieting and exercise and has continuing problems in one or certain areas of their bodies with getting rid of fat pockets. This is the most common reason why someone would elect to have liposuction done;some other reasons are to treat fatty benign tumors as well as problems with metabolism. I think it is important to stress that liposuction is not for the treatment of obesity. There are other procedures available for this if the patient is considered to be an ideal candidate for the procedure.

The procedure is done with a small hollow tube that is generally referred to as a cannula, and a vacuum type suction device known as an aspirator. The cannula is inserted through an incision (made by the doctor) and then moved rapidly underneath the skin in order to extract the fat. There are many different techniques that plastic surgeons use today and they will be discussed further in a later post.

After the procedure has been completed, the patient should allow themselves enough time for recovery and the ability to be resting is important to healing properly. There are some things that patients can do in order to make sure that they are taking proper care of themselves while they are recovering.

Liposuction Recovery

  • Drinking enough water – this will help prevent dehydration
  • Do not soak the wounds at all until they are sealed – The sealing process usually takes about 48 hours for sutured wounds and a bit longer or unsutured ones.
  • Avoid using any heating pads or similar devices on treated areas.
  • In case of dizziness the patients should just generally take it easy – do daily activities slower and get help when you need it.

Following these general guidelines will ensure the patient get a full and proper recovery without any complications. For more information about liposuction the internet is a good tool to use as well as this general website.
